Balbriggan Community Safety Week. Lots of family fun filled events .
Starts Thursday 22nd September to Sunday 25th September 2011 see flyer below for more details.
Thursday 9th September 2010
Swords Community Safety Week
Swords Community Policing Forum is holding its first ever Community Safety week from Monday 20th September to Friday 24th September and there will be a series of events to highlight many aspects of community safety.
The aim of the week is to promote the many aspects of community safety among the local residents of Swords. It is hoped that people will be more mindful of safety within their own communities, especially regarding substance misuse. It is being run in conjunction with the national Gardai Safety Week.
It is envisaged that more people will become aware of the services of Swords Community Policing Forum and that people will have a greater understanding of how Swords Community Policing Forum can assist the local community of Swords.
Events organised throughout the week aim to provide people with information and support surrounding a number of community safety issues. These include substance misuse, fire safety, road safety and self-defence. There will also be a showcase of local agencies and organisations working within the Swords area that can provide information and support on a wide range of issues including, health, home safety, road safety, benefits and entitlements, substance misuse, mental health and much more.
A general substance misuse awareness information session is also available for any member of the community interested in gaining more information about substance and drug use. There will also be a very informative workshop specifically for parents/guardians to support them in dealing with the issues of drugs and alcohol in the family, entitled ‘Don’t Lose the Head;’ developed by Crosscare.
A workshop will also be available for all those wishing to gain more knowledge and improve their skills on being involved with a committee.

Throughout the week an art competition is being held for Transition year students in Swords. An array of prizes will be given out for the best posters that highlight community safety in respect of substance misuse.
A public meeting will be held for all residents of the Rivervalley area on Tuesday 21st September from 7.30pm – 9.30pm in the Rivervalley Community Centre. This includes a drugs awareness information session from Community Awareness of Drugs.
Commenting on the events planned for the week, Phillip Keegan, Chairperson of the Community Policing Forum Advisory Group said: “Swords Community Policing Forum has organised a series of events that not only promote safety in the community but also provide the local residents of Swords with the opportunity to see what services are available in their local area. Some of the events planned will be great for the whole family!”
Swords Community Policing Forum (CPF) works on the basis that the most effective way of addressing local anti-social behaviour problems is for relevant agencies and the community to work together in an integrated and co-ordinated manner. Swords CPF is a partnership approach to addressing issues around drug and alcohol related anti-social behaviour and community safety. It builds on the existing relationships between stakeholders including An Garda Siochana, Fingal County Council and most importantly, the local community.
All of the events are free of charge. If you would like more information about any of the events planned for the week or about Swords Community Policing Forum in general, please contact Caroline Mills on 086 771 6812.
